Six things, all of them on your own machine
Cohearo is a desktop app, not a service you send meetings to. Recording, transcription and speaker separation run on your processor and are unlimited on every plan. The cloud is opt-in, one step at a time.
Press record. Nothing else happens.
Cohearo captures whatever your machine is playing plus your microphone, and transcribes it as it goes. No bot joins the call, no calendar is read, no audio is uploaded. If the network drops mid-meeting, the recording doesn't notice.
- 25 languages, detected automatically — no language picker
- System audio and microphone captured together or separately
- No length limit, on any plan
- Audio kept locally for 72 hours so you can export it, then removed
Who said what, without a setup step
Diarization separates the voices on the recording and labels each turn. Rename a speaker once and the label applies across that transcript. It runs on your device, so a room full of people costs nothing extra.
- Works for people sharing one microphone in a room
- Labels carried into every export and template
- Unlimited on every plan, including Free Personal
The transcript is the raw material, not the deliverable
Pick a preset before you stop recording and the transcript comes back as the document you actually needed. The presets ship with sensible prompts, and you can rewrite the prompt to carry your domain's rules and your preferred format.
- Meeting minutes, user story, audit report, or your own prompt
- Ask it to flag gaps as open questions instead of inventing them
- Runs in the cloud on transcript text — never on your audio
- 8 a month on Free Personal, hundreds on Professional
Search a phrase, land on the moment
Every transcript stays on your disk and stays searchable there. Type a client's name or a half-remembered phrase and you get the turn it was said in, with the speaker and the timestamp. Folders keep it navigable as it grows.
- Keyword search over the transcripts on your machine, offline
- Folders, and folder sharing by export
- Cloud search across what you chose to sync, on Professional
- We never delete your local transcripts, on any plan
Speak now. Paste later. Anywhere.
A global hotkey starts and stops a recording from any app. When you stop, the transcript is copied to your clipboard automatically — paste it into whatever field you were already in. There is no direct-inject: Cohearo does not type into other apps for you.
- Works in any application, including ones with no dictation of their own
- Transcribed on-device, so it works on a plane
- Included in Free Personal
Let your assistant read the transcripts you choose
Cohearo exposes an MCP server, so Claude and ChatGPT can search and read your synced transcripts from inside the chat you already work in. You pick what syncs; nothing you keep local is reachable.
- Scope is per transcript — sync one meeting, not your archive
- Read and search only; the assistant cannot change your recordings
- Works with Claude and ChatGPT
- Professional plan
What runs where
The rule behind every feature above: if it can run on your processor, it does, and it's unlimited. If it needs ours, it has a monthly allowance and it only ever sees text.

Where it runs
Three desktop systems with equal support — Linux included, which is rarer in this category than it should be.
Apple Silicon and Intel — a universal build for both.
Windows 10 or newer, 64-bit. Also available from the Microsoft Store.
x64, glibc 2.38 or newer, via .deb or AppImage (e.g. Ubuntu 24.04+, Debian 13+, Fedora 40+). Older distributions can't start the app.
Mobile recording is in early access with reduced reliability versus desktop. Create your account to be notified.
Try it on a real meeting
Free Personal covers everything on this page that runs on your device, permanently.
